Quick answer: The layering system, the shoes, and the five small things people always forget.
Packing for a trek is about layers, not bulk. Here is the list we send every first-time trekker.
Layers
- A quick-dry T-shirt as the base layer (no cotton)
- A fleece as the middle layer
- A down or padded jacket for camp
- A waterproof shell for rain and wind
Feet
Trekking shoes with ankle support and a good grip. Break them in for at least two weeks before the trek. Carry two pairs of woollen socks.
The five things people forget
- Lip balm
- A head torch
- A pack cover
- Plastic bags to keep clothes dry
- A small towel
